The Desert Rose
Selenite Gypsum Rosettes truly are a natural wonder. Nicknamed the desert rose, these selenite crystals form in a unique rosette growth habit. This variety appears in the sand, formed by the rise and fall of the water table in arid conditions where a source of Calcium and Sulfate(CaSO4) is available. They are created in tens to hundreds of years, which is astonishingly fast in terms of geologic time. Surprisingly, their chemical makeup is identical to Satin Spar selenite (CaSO4 -2H20).
The beautiful bladed spheres add a distinct texture to our designs.
